October 29th, 2012 Posted by Sharkey There are times when I worry about having friends.? Of course, Francesca and G.K. are my pals and so are the donkeys.? But sometimes I wonder about all of the other residents at the farm.? I decided to approach Meindert, the horse with this issue and here's what he said.
Hi there, Meindert. It seems like I'm having a little trouble lately with other animals on the farm. They just don't want to be my friends.
For example, the cats don't want anything to do with me.
And even the red canaries tuck their heads under their wings when I saunter into the bird room to say hello to them.
What do you think is going on? This makes me so upset that I could cry!
Sharkey! Get a grip! This isn't so hard to figure out.
Have you ever heard of an order of mammals called carnivora?
Let me explain - Sharkey, I am a horse and I am what is called an herbivore. My teeth have adapted quite nicely to chew on all sorts of grasses, which is what we horses like to eat.
We are large animals, but we don't eat meat.
You dogs are carnivores and have very impressive teeth designed for grabbing, ripping, tearing, and shredding. By the way, I've seen you in action. Your squirrel-chasing stunts are no secret around the farm.
Need I say more, Sharkey? All those other animals are just plain scared of you! However, here's the plus side. You're kind of at the top of the food chain!
