Play Eat Grow: Play: [Guest Post] Kiwi Crate review

Karissa is a mother to three young children, and while she may not be the "craftiest" person on earth, her commitment to her family more than makes up for it.? Below is her review of Kiwi Crate - a box of craft supplies that can be shipped monthly to your house.? Sounds like fun to me!

I am not a creative person.? Fun or fabulous ideas don?t usually just pop into my head.? Most of my good ideas have been begged, borrowed, stolen or most likely pinned from someone else.? And since I?m not very creative, being crafty doesn?t come easily.? Glue sticks, googly eyes and glitter just aren?t my favorite things.?? However, my children love all things Crayola, and since I am trying to be a good mommy, I want to encourage their God-given creativity, not stifle it.?
When Meg Duerksen who blogs over here introduced me to Kiwi Crate,?I was excited. ?For non-crafty mothers like me, Kiwi Crate is a genius idea. ?I encourage you to visit their website.? But to sum up, for $19.95 they send you a green box of fun once a month.? Each box is?filled with ALL supplies and instructions necessary for 2 craft projects.? I paid a bit extra for enough supplies for 2 kiddos to complete the projects, but I also had a $10 off coupon which helped toward the total cost.??

These are really cool crafts! ?Our September box was filled with cloth aprons to decorate, play money and all the necessary supplies to create a box full of stuffed fruits and veggies. ?My children had fun completing the craft and just as much fun afterwards playing ?market?.??

Is this extravagant?? Maybe.? But I have to share that when planning my own crafts, ?by the time I herd 3 kiddos (7,4, & 2) to and through the craft store gathering supplies, go a little bit crazy and then come home having lost just a tiny bit of my mind and spending more money that I intended, all desire to encourage creativity is gone.? So for me, this is totally worth it.? Will I order again? ?Definitely. ?I think this would make a great gift for children who have oodles of toys.? I also think this is a fabulous grandparent gift idea! ?

?

My kids were so excited to find our second green box of fun on the front porch last month?just a few days ahead of hurricane Sandy.? Bless those folks at Kiwi Crate who sent supplies for making shadow puppets.? They even included nifty little rechargeable flashlights for the kids.? I understand that this was probably not intentional but it provided some very necessary entertainment when our power was out during the storm.?

?
One of the things that I love most about the crafts we?ve received is that they encourage creative play once the craft project has been completed.? Kiwi Crate advertises that their activities have been tested by children, approved by parents and are appropriate for ages 3-7.?

Karissa, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this fantastic product.? Make sure to check out the Kiwi Crate website for more information, and don't forget to tell Grandpa and Grandma!?
