There are so many advantages to starting a home business, like being able to spend more time with your family, reducing time spent commuting and enjoying a flexible lifestyle. Or that?s how it should be.
What can happen is that you end up spending more time attending to your business and less time on other tasks in your home life, resulting in you working harder than ever. As this often results in chaotic working patterns and disorganisation, you very rarely see a rise in productivity or profit.
To combat this, create a schedule of working hours and stick to them. Although you want to build your business, working all day, every day isn?t the answer. Have a separate room to use as your office and once you are in there, ensure all members of the household understand that you are at work and not to be disturbed.
A separate business phone line would enable you to have calls diverted to an answer machine without missing important messages. If you don?t have a separate space in your home, consider renting a serviced office on a short-term basis, so that you can have your own work space.
Create a strategy to increase your productivity and reducing the number of resources you use. Even spending time dealing with a personal phone call or email will reduce productivity and ultimately, your profit. Stick to an office schedule, making sure that the whole day is devoted to your business, leaving well-deserved free time that you can enjoy with family and friends.
